AP Hampi Express Train Accident Kills 14 With 30 Injuries

At least 14 people died and around 30 are injured when the Bangalore-bound Hampi Express collided with a goods train near Penneconda in Andhra Pradesh.

Three bogies of the Hampi Express were derailed, causing one of them to catch fire. According to NDTV, the fire has been brought under control now but several people are still said to be trapped inside the damaged coaches.

CNN IBN says the Railway Ministry has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the dead, Rs 1 lakh for grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 for simple injuries.

The cause of the accident is not known but initial reports say the driver of the Hampi Express may have overshot signal and hit the goods train.
